Just a little Punk for Dogfish Head Punkin Ale

20161027_184802Tasting another pumpkin ale this evening. Dogfish Head Punkin Ale is a much more classic style pumpkin ale than the Boulevard Funky Pumpkin that I tried the other night. This seasonal release from Dogfish Head is available in September, October and November. It was originally released in 1995, so it has some history.

In my opinion, Dogfish Head Punkin Ale is still weak on the pumpkin spices. It has a mild pumpkin spice aroma and a clean smooth flavor, but is still doesn’t have the more direct punch of pumpkin that I’m looking for in this style of ale. I know that many will say that less is more, but in my opinion this time, less is just less. No offense to Dogfish head. This is still a very drinkable beer. I’m sure the six pack wont be lasting too long, but not the Great Pumpkin that I am still looking for.

Do me a favor and try this one for yourself, and let me know what you think. What  are you looking for in your ideal pumpkin ale?

Don’t just follow my style desires. Check out what other beer geeks think:

One last aside; notice the image on the pint glass of beer. This glass is from the Proper Pig. A great restaurant in Waterville,Maine with with an emphasis on all things pork. It’s worth your while. Definitely check it out.
